Not professional advice
Nothing here is HVAC, electrical, gas, legal, tax or financial advice for your situation. Penny Damper is not an HVAC contractor, does no installs, repairs or service calls, and has not seen your equipment or your paperwork. For a diagnosis, a quote or a tax question, ask a licensed technician, a contractor or a tax professional, and get the diagnosis and the itemized price in writing.
Safety
Do only the jobs a page describes as safe for a homeowner, and shut off power first, both at the thermostat and at the breaker or outdoor disconnect. Never work on refrigerant, gas valves, burners or capacitors, and never bypass a safety switch. If you're unsure, call a licensed technician.
A gas smell means everyone leaves the house first; leave light switches and phones alone until you are outdoors, then call the gas utility or 911. A sounding carbon monoxide alarm means the same: everyone goes out into fresh air, and the call to 911 or the fire department is made from there. Ovens, stoves, grills and generators are never a way to heat a home.
Prices and programs
Part prices are a supply house's listed prices on the date shown and will change. Program rules, income limits, tax credits and rebates change too, and states run most of them differently. Check the linked agency page, or ask the agency, before you rely on a figure. The sources page explains how figures are chosen and dated.
Penny Damper is not responsible for a decision, purchase or repair made on the strength of these pages, to the extent the law allows.
